Cernelle is a Swedish company that manufactures and sells a herbal medicinal product based on extracts from pollen
for the symptom treatment of benign prostate conditions.
The active ingredient Cernitin® pollen extract is manufactured in a dedicated plant in Cernelle´s
premises in southern Sweden. The extract is used in tablet products marketed under the brand names
Cernitol® (Sweden) and Cernilton® (rest of the world) for symptom treatment of benign prostate
hyperplasia (BPH) and chronic prostatitis (CP/CPPS). The company´s largest market is Japan
where Cernilton® is perceived by many urologists as a first choice medication in the said conditions.
In a recent article in European Urology Dr Wagenlehner et al from the university of Giessen, Germany,
presented very favourable results of Cernilton® treatment in patients with CP/CPPS. Compared to placebo,
the pollen extract significantly improved total symptoms, pain and QoL in patients with inflammatory CP/CPPS
without severe side effects.
